LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Norse legend has it that Valhalla is the hall of heroes. And on a sweltering Thursday when players fought a brave fight against the heat and then fled from the lightning, a collection of past PGA Championship heroes jammed the leaderboard.
The last four winners of this tournament -- led by 1995 champion Steve Elkington with a 5-under-par 67 -- were bunched within four strokes of leader Kenny Perry on another sticky day at Valhalla Golf Club.
Elkington was a stroke behind Perry, who played the back nine after a four-hour rain delay and finished in the twilight at 66.
